Sketchesssss

Sketchdump :D!! Well bunch of happy accidents again or ...you'll be the judge. Just wanted to update with something before leaving to a week of some boat action and other domestic travelling. So I again collected the best and the wörst from sketchbooks and scrap papers. There's a lot of stuff so click for a larger view to explore my wandering, not so logical line, enjoy.

Sanguine Di Sketchbook

I'm on my holiday so I have time to sort my pencils and other useful stuff so as I went through my art supplies I came across some pieces of sanguine chalk. Hadn't been using that in ages so I gave it a quick go. Added a touch with white chalk as well.

Again. It's been a month since my last update and these I compiled from last couple of lifedrawing sessions. But hey it's summer right :)?

Fried Green Lifedrawings

An update!...with lifedrawings. Yay.

But seriously! With these I tried out again a different technique, black and white pencil on tinted paper. The change of medium affects the style and forces me to change the way I draw.

Of course I can't completely escape my underlying "style" :/

Mobile Animations

Went through my hard drive and came upon these GIF -animations exported from my old Nokia mobile phone. They were made with the excellent Animator 3000 -animation program developed at Sulake in 2007 (nowadays the guys of Secret Exit). The program unfortunately never saw the light of day :(

Good thing I exported these since I no longer have neither the phone or the program files...

Out of Croquis

The semi-regular life drawing sessions at Taidehalli have started again, so I'll keep posting that stuff here until something more substantial appears :)

These are mostly 5 min drawings with a couple of 10-15 min ones too. The funny thing is...that there reaally isn't much difference between those done in a short time and those done in a tad longer time. Maybe in terms of some more shading and more accurate depiction of the head area. I still want to do a really long pose someday and maybe even paint that. So here's waiting those retirement days then!

Doodleland in the year 2010

Gee, it's a whole new decade. That's sci-fi.

But I on the other hand haven't evolved to digital or any other than pencil, pen and paper doodles on my spare time on dry land.

So I present you once again with the collected doodles and random scribbles from various scrap papers. (Click for a bigger and better view.)

But! I promise that this year, I will deliver something a bit more substantial. I just won't promise you when :) (I can hear my millions of "followers" gasp right about now.)

Inglourious Lifedrawings

They're back. Had the chanche to do some some actual lifedrawing today. It had been a while so I was feeling a bit rusty and didn't remember how exhausting it is to sit and draw one pose after another..

5-7-5 The Taking Of Artist's Block

I'm currently on this quite extensive (comics) scriptwriting course. I really hope it will help me in producing more of comics or other stuff as well.

This was a quick exercise in doing a haiku in the form of a comic.

More about the comic here. The comic was published in a comics competition anthology called 5 Fantasiaa by Egmont. It seems to be pretty hard to come by in stores nowadays but I'm sure you'll find a copy in the used book stores or the bargain bins ;)

Don't judge a comic by it's covers

I realized that I hadn't posted this image before.

It was firstly a picture that I made as a contribution to a great book called: Pingstate Art of a Visual Community. It has many many many many wonderful artworks and is a nice gift for a friend interested in visual culture.

Secondly this is a "unofficial" cover for the comic that me and Eija Lappalainen did for the Sarjis 2007 comics competition. You can find my posts about it here, here, here and here :)

It served more as an inspirational artwork, as an entry for the aforementioned book and as a start for work with the actual comic.

But the cover certainly has it's roots firmly in the story of the short comic. The Helsinki comics festival was held again last weekend. As usual I was solely on the reader's side of the tables so I decided that I might as well publish online the only comic that I've been able to produce during the last 2 years :/

That will be the next post.

Night of The Living Burlesque Art

An update, an update, we have an update :)!

Every year in Helsinki there is the Night of The Arts where there are hundreds of different happenings with music, theatre, dance, film etc.

One of these things was the Dr. Sketchy's in the window of a bookstore. They were handing out drawing supplies to people passing by to draw the Burlesque models posing in the window. Pretty cool.

These are uncencored scans (=even the crappy ones included, nothing dirtier than that ;) of what I drew of the poses.
